9 Tips for Broadway Theatre-Goers

After a miserable pandemic and a half, Broadway Theatres are finally set to welcome (vaccinated) audiences again. Over the next several weeks, Broadway will turn the lights back on. And while I’m thrilled at the prospect (I’m a theatre geek after all), I’m also a bit worried. People barely knew how to behave at the theatre before the pandemic. Now, even the ones who knew are out of practice. You all know about not unwrapping your candy during a performance, but there’s more. So much more. Luckily, I’m here with a handy little list of Rules for Broadway Theatre-Going. Break a Leg!

1. Shut your Damn Phone Off.

Yes, you know this one too. It’s even announced at the start of every show . And yet. And yet there is always someone- usually someone with a Taylor Swift Shake it Off ringtone, who forgets. Or doesn’t bother. Or thinks they NEED their phone on. Generations of theatre goers have survived without people being able to reach them for a few hours. You will too. You’re not that important. Get over yourself.

2. Tone Down Your ‘do.

If you’re tall, it’s one thing. No one likes to see Lebron James scooting his way into the row directly in front of them, but it’s not like there’s a whole lot he can do about being circus-freak tall. But if it’s just your ginormous hairdo…
